Look twice at the window
The front of the shop is painted to look like it's full of washing machines — a trick worked out with the local art group Artmongers, who photographed the shop's own machines and put the image straight onto the glass. People walking past aren't always sure if what they're looking at is inside the window or out.
The launderette itself has been on New Cross Road since the early 1960s, when it was run as a father-and-son business. It was bought and refitted in the early 1990s, passed down within the family in 2008, and has been run since 2019 by a third generation of the same family.
